Montreal, Tuesday, June 3, 2025 - Forum RIDM is proud to announce that The Production of the World, a documentary project directed and produced by Canadian Brett Story, won the Post-Production Award at Cannes Docs - Marché du Film de Cannes. The project was featured in the Docs-In-Progress – Canadian Showcase, one of eight international showcases presented from May 15 to 20 during Cannes Docs.
The filmmaker is awarded a €5,000 grant in post-production services, thanks to the participation of TransPerfect Media, Technical Partner of the Cannes Film Festival. Co-producer Elhum Shakerifar was present at the ceremony to receive the award.
“It was already a tremendous honour to present a portion of my film alongside the other extremely talented Canadian filmmakers in the Cannes Docs-In-Progress – Canadian Showcase, and so then winning the Post-Production Award for The Production of the World was an extra thrill. It is very meaningful to be recognized by the jury in this way, especially given how brilliant all of the other films in the showcase are. Cannes was an amazing experience, and the Cannes Docs team outdid themselves to support non-fiction filmmakers and bring together an amazing array of talent from the documentary field for a truly special festival experience.” - Brett Story, filmmaker and producer
The jury was composed of Maria Bonsanti (film consultant and selection committee member of the Giornate degli Autori festival), Soleil Gharbieh (program manager of the Arab Fund For Arts & Culture - AFAC) and Kiyoko McCrae (Program Director of Chicken & Egg Films).
This is the sixth edition in which Forum RIDM has sent participants to Docs-In-Progress, enabling four teams consisting of Canadian producers and directors to travel to Cannes to present their documentary projects currently being finalized to an audience of international buyers, distributors, festival programmers, and sales agents.
The Docs-In-Progress – Canadian Showcase at Cannes Docs - Marché du Film de Cannes is made possible by and organized in partnership with Telefilm Canada.
