Liti Liti Mamadou Khouma Gueye

In the Dakar suburbs, filmmaker Mamadou Khouma Gueye films his elderly mother, who, like thousands of other residents of the Guinaw Rail neighbourhood, is being forced to leave the home where she has lived for over 40 years. The reason: the arrival of a brand-new regional express train, a symbol of modernity and progress about which politicians like to boast. But the project is scarring the neighbourhood and draining its vitality, dismantling family homes and breaking long-standing bonds of solidarity. With its direct cinematography and remarkable visual sense, Liti Liti paints a moving portrait of a woman torn from her lifelong neighbourhood, emphasizing the disillusionment and sense of abandonment that grips a population forgotten by those who govern them.
