Siksikakowan: L'homme pied-noir
Armed with his camera, Trevor Solway returns to his community, the Siksika Nation, to understand how masculinity is expressed. The film uses a series of open-ended questions to structure the young men's testimonies and scenes from their daily lives. Trevor Solway invites us into the different spaces where these men’s lives unfold. Some codes of masculinity are evident in places like hockey locker rooms and rodeo arenas, while other forms of masculinity appear in ceremonies, like pow-wow dances. In a friendly atmosphere, these men open up about various topics, including vulnerability, fatherhood, transmission, friendship, and their relationship with the land. Siksikakowan the Blackfoot Man paints a fair and thoughtful portrait of these diverse Indigenous youth who defy the stereotypes attached to their identity. (AF)
