In Tayal tradition, “Spi,” which means to dream, is how people connect with their ancestors. After her grandfather’s passing, Sayun Simung’s family is overwhelmed by grief and disorientation. When her teenage cousin becomes pregnant, her grandmother’s disappointment reveals deeper generational gaps and cultural divides. From time to time, the grandfather appears in their dreams. Weaving her family’s story and her own quest to connect to her Tayal roots, Sayun Simung traces how one family, torn between modernity and Indigenous memory, strives to carry forward the spirit of their ancestor.
