Film de roche Laurence Olivier

Touching Rocks

In a Western Canada bordering on the supernatural, rocks whisper and impose their presence, sometimes threatening, sometimes welcoming. Gradually, tattooed hands rest on them, bloody fingers cling to them, contorted bodies collide with them. In this experimental short film, filmmaker and author Laurence Olivier brings out the unique cinematic potential of these climbs, enhanced by the use of film and a metal soundtrack that matches the physical violence inflicted on the climbers. Film de roche is about both rocks and women; it reveals bouldering as a ritual of mesmerizing visual and sensory power, a true ode to the fragility and resilience of the female body. (MAS)
