Before his death from AIDS in the 1990s, Lloyd Wong filmed himself to personally document his fight against the virus’s complications as part of the Toronto Living with AIDS video series, broadcast from 1990 to 1991. The archival footage of this project, which he did not have time to complete before his death, was long considered lost. Recently found, these unfinished images are presented here in dialogue with the research notes of filmmaker Lesley Loksi Chan. Their voices meet, separated by their respective temporalities but united by the medium and their desire for representation and survival. Unfinished is the antonym of finality, but it also evokes infinity, the possibilities that haunt what remains open, incomplete. It is in this tragic and grandiose space that Lloyd Wong, Unfinished unfolds. (AJL)
