Swirl takes us to the heart of rural Brazil to paint a poetic yet deeply human portrait of Bastu, a lively and vibrant octogenarian. Her husband's passing allows space for meditation on life, resilience, time, memory, and the connections between the living and the dead. Simultaneously, she continues to dream in the company of her grandchildren. At the crossroads between documentary and fiction, this film adopts a contemplative rhythm that reflects the daily life of the village and emphasizes the authenticity and spontaneity of the exchanges. The film captures inhabited silences, seemingly innocuous conversations imbued with wisdom, as well as moments of traditional song and dance with great delicacy to deliver a rare and precious sensory experience.(AAM)
