The Secret Lives of My Three Men
In this intriguing work, a cross between autobiography, theatrical film, and documentary, Letícia Simões unravels the threads of her family history, exploring the intersection of personal and collective memory. The filmmaker focuses on three key male figures in her family who actors play on a stage that is both restrained and symbolic. Each ghost represents an era and a reality of Brazil: her grandfather is in an armed group at the start of the 20th century, her father is a military dictatorship collaborator, and her godfather, a Black, gay man, is facing exclusion and grief in a society scarred by racism and homophobia. Through these three stories, the film uncovers the layers of a deeply rooted violence, while trying to understand how unspoken histories shape us, sometimes unbeknownst to us. (AAM)
