Presented as an ode to cinema and a tribute to his mother, this feature-length film is a continuation of Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese’s work and stands out as a captivating and poetic personal testimony. Infused with a sound design that creates a bewitching atmosphere, this fragmented narrative combines tangible and spiritual imagination through a freely intertwined temporality to explore a sophisticated reflection on exile, belonging, memory, violence, and colonialism. This work weaves together powerful symbolic images, the filmmaker’s narration, and the camera’s inventive look on his childhood country, Lesotho. Revisiting the seminal memories of Mosese’s identity, the film evokes the possibility of a collective future imbued with mythology and ancestral knowledge. (HSB)
