Past Future Continuous follows Maryam, who fled Iran after the Iranian Revolution and never returned. Decades later, in the United States, she maintains a fragile connection with her elderly parents in Tehran through discreetly installed surveillance cameras throughout their home. Their gestures and movements unfold on screen, merging memory and present into a delicate flow. When the images freeze or vanish, so too does Maryam’s sense of closeness. At first, her parents perform their lives for the cameras with conscious care. Over time, the lens fades from their awareness, revealing quiet, unguarded moments. Through Maryam’s voiceover, the film transitions from departure to the emptiness left behind in a home drained of presence yet filled with enduring love. In this way, the film explores separation, memory, and the invisible bonds that endure across borders and time. (ME)
