In the heart of Beirut, three men, Reda, Adel, and Qassem, meet regularly in a seaside haven where time seems suspended. Their conversations and silences carry the unresolved weight of Lebanon’s civil war, the fading promises of the present, and the uncertainty of what lies ahead. Dima El-Horr’s presence is felt in the subtle intimacy she creates behind the camera, allowing the men to reveal themselves with trust and nuance. Through a poetic voice-over and images that drift between wide, meditative stillness and layered, unfolding close-ups, she traces lives shaped by loss yet sustained by resilience. As personal stories merge with collective memory, the sea emerges as both a refuge and a mirror. And the Fish Fly Above Our Heads is a meditation on history’s ghosts and on how people’s presence and voices persist in a country perpetually on the edge of political turmoil. (ME)
