As a child, Karin Pennanen lived below her uncle Markku’s apartment. A visual artist, musician, and composer, he was a multi-talented guardian of dreams who practically disappears from her life after moving to another city. Years later, while she was studying film, they reconnected and she toyed with the idea of making a film about and with him. However, the project was continually postponed and unfortunately had to wait until his death to happen. In Days of Wonders, the filmmaker delves into Markku's never-exhibited or -before-seen works, including his drawings, notes, compositions, and various audio and video recordings, which reveal the many facets of the art and private life of her gifted, solitary, and perceptive uncle. This film is largely based on archives and revisits his world through a fascinating artistic dialogue between the two artists, conveying a surprising and touching posthumous tribute. (HSB)
