An ancient and enigmatic mermaid roams the human world. While travelling across the United States, she observes the world around her with a gaze that is both meditative and unusual. The solitary introspection gradually evolves into the testimony of a collective experience as she joins the merfolk subculture, a community adopting the imagery of mythological sea creatures as a form of self-expression. The hybrid nature of these beings is subtly reflected in the film's form, which blurs the boundaries between documentary, science fiction, and road movie, weaving a narrative that is both poetic and political. Set in a society bordering on dystopia, Sirens Call deploys a delicate and powerful metaphor to delve deeper into questions of identity, belonging, and resistance in marginalized communities. (AAM)
