In Jerada, in northeastern Morocco, coal dust still lingers despite the mine's official closure. In this collaborative short film straddling the line between documentary and performance, French-Moroccan multidisciplinary artist Randa Maroufi gives voice to those who, lacking economic alternatives, are forced to return to the hostile and oppressive depths of the tunnels day after day. By working with them to reconstruct the scenery of a half-abandoned city, she creates living portraits through which a camera weaves slowly and precisely, capturing the exhausted gestures, the heavy air, and the anger of these forgotten men and women who become known through this powerful and sensory work.
