In China, between 1966 and 1976, wood engraving was suppressed. In the early 2000s, it was declared part of China's national intangible cultural heritage. In Re-engraved, the history of this traditional craft is told through the anecdotes of craftswoman Chen Meiqi. This short film illustrates her invisible work. The daughter of a famous woodblock craftsman, she carried the entire industry on her shoulders for a time. This experimental film bridges the techniques of wood engraving and cinematography by reproducing prints on film. The magnificent images of the workshop and the city of Yangzhou, captured by the LomoKino, underline the photogram as a work in itself. (SCV)
